Therapy
Therapy just what is it? Why are so many people afraid of it? What is it that makes it work? How will I know if it’s working for me? What makes talking to another person so effective? Therapy or some type of counseling has been around as long as one can recall in one form or another.
There has always been a very long need for therapy to help individuals with difficult transitions and other problem areas in their lives. The long standing tradition of therapy is with family members first helping with giving advice. Parents will provide counsel to their children. Grandparents offer their wisdom and so on.
In close communities, there is usually an elder guiding those with mental health issues. This role can also take the form of a pastor, priest or other religious leader. They provide a space for the individual to talk with confidentiality and this enables the discussion of family matters or those things usually kept as a secret from the rest of the family.

What’s Its Purpose?
The purpose of conducting therapy is for assisting and treating people’s personal life challenges and to learn ways to live with or how to best overcome mental illnesses and disorders that are affecting a person’s day to day life.
Before a person seeks therapy, they need to ask what it is they are wanting to get from coming to therapy. What is their main focus or reason for attending? As with any conversation that is structured, having a goal and some objectives is important before meeting with the therapist. Therapy
The Various Types
Therapy comes in all different forms. There’s not a one stop fix for treating mental illnesses. This is why there are many ways which lead to treating different types of disorders. Listed below is an overview of the most common forms of therapy.
Individual Therapy
This type of therapy (Individual therapy), is also often referred to as psychotherapy. It is a form of therapy involving the client and a licensed Mental Health therapist. Individual therapy most of the time takes place in private office settings, over the phone, video conferencing, hospitals, schools and mental health facilities. It is very important that the client feels safe and secure and knows that what they speak about is 100% confidential. This will allow the client to freely be able to provide and give information without judgment or any negative consequences.
Group Therapy
Typically group therapy is conducted when two or more clients participate in a session. It is conducted or lead by usually one or more well trained therapist. Group therapy takes place in some professional places, religious worship facilities, individuals homes, and even some public places.
Family Therapy
Family therapy can be very helpful for many families. A family is a system and this means that the more people from the system willing to work on themselves, the faster the healing process. Family therapy is helpful in situations that cause conflict, stress, increased anger, or loss and grief
Marriage and Couples Therapy
When conducting couples therapy it is typically focused more on the current daily problematic issues and is intended to place its focus on the management of current situations and related feelings. An effective marriage and couples counselor will assist in how the relationship between both individuals is viewed, helps to modify dysfunctional behaviors, decreases emotional avoidance, improves communication, and focuses on both the set of problems and the strengths of the couples relationship.
