Why Do Children need Counseling?
Children need counseling when they have issues or problems that they cannot cope with or figure out. When it’s affecting their day to day life and they are unable to manage with the daily stressors then help is need. Many times the entire family needs support. They all need to learn how to communicate more effectively and create safe and healthy boundaries.
How Does Orlando Child Therapy Work?
Children learn by doing. Play therapy, and CBT therapy are two great and effective approaches when working with children. Also Art Therapy. They are often better able to express how they feel and what’s going on internally when they draw or role play.
The Therapist gives praise and a lot of support to the child. They help to boost their confidence and find their unique and individual strengths. Patterns and new behaviors are created. The therapist may choose to work with the child alone or with the parents. Most of the time it’s a combination of both. The parents learn from the therapist how to implement new techniques and strategies to implement at home.

What Will Happen in Therapy?
First the therapist will meet with the parents to get their view on what they see going on with their child. Once the therapist has a full understanding the child then meets alone with the therapist. A relationship built on trust and respect must evoke in order for the child to feel they can open up and share.
After this, your child attends more therapy mostly once weekly. At therapy they may:
-
Talk Openly
Talking is a very healthy way to have a child express their feelings. When children put their feelings into words instead of maladaptive or disruptive behaviors and actions, they can rise to their full potential. When another listens and fully knows how they are feeling, the child is more willing to learn and interact.
-
Do role play and activities.
Therapists use certain activities to assist and teach about feelings as well as coping skills. Kids may draw or role play as an effect way of learning.
-
Practicing new skills.
Therapists help children practice what they are learning. They play stimulating games where the child needs to wait their turn, use some self-control, learn to be patient, listen and follow directions, try again if they fail, share and be kind.
How Long Does Orlando Child Therapy Take?
How long does therapy lasts will depend on the specific goals you and the child’scounselor has. Most of the time therapist meet with the child once a week for 2-3 months. This can change in regards to severity of problem.
