Five Tips to Making Important but Complicated Decisions
Are you faced with making a big but difficult decision? Do you struggle to make important decisions regarding your personal or professional life? You may be faced with a tough decision about a career move or a personal family conflict. You will want to trust that you can make the right decision. Placing yourself in a position to focus on both options and truly consider all the choices will allow you to make the best choice for your life.
Look at the Pros and Cons of Each
Anytime you are making a tough decision, you want to sit back and truly understand the pros and cons of each choice. Write down a list of pros and cons for each possible scenario so that you can have a full understanding of the effects and consequences on your life. As you work through these benefits, you will be able to take notice of the ones that are obtainers. This may make the right choice a clear one for you.
Consider Any Regrets
Before making a choice, consider any possible regrets that may come with each choice. Can you live with them? Are these regrets deal-breakers? When you are making the right choice for your lifestyle, you need to also be able to live with any potential regrets that you may have if you choose a certain path over another. If you cannot live with those regrets, then it is a sign that that path is not the right one for you.
Consider the “What Ifs”
Similar to the regrets, you also want to consider any potential “what if” or “what could have been” situations. Imagine yourself a few years in the future. Are you happy with the choice that altered the course of your life? If you are concerned, fearful, or even worried about making the wrong decision, this could be the gut instinct you need to follow. You will want to avoid looking back with dread and regret.
Weigh Each Option
Looking at each option and its overall effect on your life is critical in weighing how they will change your life. If you move to a new city, what will change? What will you lose? What will you gain? Ask yourself many different questions to visualize multiple scenarios and truly understand what each choice will cost you, and what each choice will offer you.
Is there any possible way that you can find a compromise to get the best of both worlds? Ask around or get creative to try to come up with a solution that meets all of your criteria. Although this may be difficult or even near impossible, it is worth a shot. You never know until you try.
These are just a few of the tips to follow when it comes time to make important decisions in your life.
