Headaches, migraine, back pain and even toothache can all be caused or made worse by depression, particularly if your muscles are tense and you are unable to relax. Some people feel as if they are aching all over, while others experience mild to severe pain in specific areas of the body. To make matters worse, depression can also lower your tolerance to pain, meaning that even mild pain may be difficult to manage.

Digestive Problems

Depression can cause inflammation along the digestive tract, leading to a wide range of symptoms, including heartburn, excess stomach acid, bloating, nausea, stomach pain and constipation. In addition, depression and anxiety have been linked to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other problems related to the digestive system. Some people also find that food intolerances and sensitivity to certain chemicals in processed foods can be worsened by depression.

Vision Problems

Depression has been linked to problems with eyesight, including blurred vision, reduced night vision and a general worsening of vision. One study suggested that people with depression struggle to see the differences in shades of black and white (contrast perception). Eyesight problems related to depression are often temporary and will improve once the depression has been successfully treated, but you should always seek help if your vision is affected.

Allergies or Frequent Infections

Depression triggers inflammation in the body and lowers the immune system, making you more prone to infections and allergic responses. Depression can also aggravate existing conditions, such as hay fever, eczema, asthma and skin allergies. In addition, you may find it more difficult to fight off common infections and viruses.
